Laborie Longtable Dinner: An Enchanted Evening Under the Stars

Laborie Vineyard Longtable

An alfresco feast in the vineyards.

There’s a rare magic to this annual longtable event at Laborie Heritage Wine Estate – one of the highlights of the Paarl Winelands calendar. Sitting at the long table set between rows of vines, as the sun sinks and the light turns golden, you’re swept into an almost enchanted ambience. Dusk falls and the sunset glow is replaced by candlelight, by fairylights strung overhead, and then by the full moon rising. The accompanying four-course feast paired with fine wines from the estate just adds to the sense of occasion, as does the live music wafting through verdant spring vines.

A spring feast

Laborie Longtable Spring Feast

In keeping with the food philosophy at their Stoep Restaurant, Laborie’s chefs focus on seasonal and locally sourced ingredients from the surrounding Drakenstein region for this one-off alfresco dinner. And they’ve worked with the winemakers to find the perfect pairing for each course. This is what’s on the menu for this year’s event:

Canapés with a welcome drink (each course is deliciously paired with fine estate wine)

Starter
Salmon trout gravlax with beetroot, hummus, lemon labneh and wild rocket
or
Caprese salad with bocconcini, cherry tomatoes, salad leaves and balsamic reduction

Main
Confit pork belly with crackling crisps, carrot purée, fennel and citrus jam
or
Chicken roulade with lemonaise and carrots three ways
or
Melanzane fired sliced aubergine, layered with cheese, and tomato sauce

Dessert
Cheesecake with salted caramel and fudge
