Braai platters to share and whisky-inspired cocktails…
In the Jonkershoek Valley at the edge of Stellenbosch’s historic centre, Lanzerac has been the go-to place for family celebrations for generations. Surrounded by verdant vineyards and dramatic mountain vistas, its Cape Dutch manor house and cellars (dating back to 1692) resonate with a centuries-long history of hospitality, a suitably scenic setting to bring the dads in your life for a Father’s Day lunch full of delicious and nostalgic braai-inspired South African flavours.
Father’s Day Lunch
An epic feast of flavour starts beside a crackling fire in the Craven Lounge, where you’re treated to a whisky-inspired cocktail accompanied by appetisers such as Oysters Rockerfeller cooked on open flames, and Tandoori chicken roti.
Then move through to the grandeur of the Manor Kitchen restaurant where chef Stephen Fraser and team continue the feast. After a starter of smoked snoek and cheddar arancini with brandied apricot and pickled red onion, they send a generous array of braai-inspired sharing platters to the table. Help yourselves to slow-cooked rib-eye on the bone with a cabernet jus; to a lamb mixed grill with cutlets, tails and skilpadjies; and prawn and kingklip skewers with a coconut and mint dressing. On the side are a generous array of flavours, from the biltong parmesan and leek potato bake to mielies straight off the fire with ginger curry butter, among other mouthwatering sides.
A showstopper of a whisky and raisin pudding puts the comfort-food factor back into dessert, dressed up with orange elements, edible soil, whisky sabayon and hazelnut cigar. This is a hearty feast, designed with dads in mind, that the whole family will happily tuck into.
Stroll the Lanzerac grounds before or after your meal, soak up the classic Stellenbosch Winelands views and make the most of a convivial family get-together for Father’s Day.
