A wine-paired dinner extravaganza.

The Manor Restaurant at Nederburg has earned some serious brownie points for the stellar lineup of chefs in its Taste, Learn & Discover dinner series. We’re talking about some of South Africa’s most-buzzed-about names (you might’ve heard of them, but have yet to experience their legendary food) and each will be creating a five-course feast paired with some of the estate’s best wines.

Says The Manor’s head chef, Jerry Kennedy: “They’ve been given carte blanche to reflect their personal style of classic, contemporary, familiar, and exciting new flavours – which gives us a chance to highlight the versatility, food-friendliness and deliciousness of our wines.”

Hosted in the glorious surroundings of the 200-year-old manor house on Nederburg estate near Paarl – surrounded by mountains and vineyards – the series has all the ingredients for some spectacular evenings of food and wine.

So who are SA’s hottest chefs?

Nederburg: Dinner Series at The Manor 2022 Chef Marthinus Ferreira

Marthinus Ferreira has just moved down to the Cape after making his name with his experimental, lightly nostalgic fine-dining cuisine at DW Eleven-13 in Joburg. He is taking over the reins at Jordan Estate from George Jardine and the revamped space will be re-opening as The Jordan Restaurant with Marthinus Ferreira this spring. Before his award-garnering success at DW Eleven-13, Marthinus worked abroad under Gordon Ramsay and Heston Blumenthal.

His dinners at Nederburg (26 and 27 August) give Capetonians a first taste of his inimitable style – for which he’s putting together a predominantly plant-based menu celebrating the best of home-grown, sustainable ingredients with a freshly individual approach.

Nederburg: Dinner Series at The Manor 2022 Chef Mmabatho Molefe

With her tiny 10-seater restaurant, Emazulwini, at Maker’s Landing, Mmabatho Molefe has grabbed the gourmet world’s attention, re-imagining traditional Zulu cooking with the fine-dining expertise she gained working at Aubergine and Salsify at the Roundhouse. She’s the only South African to make it onto the World’s 50 Best 50 Next list in 2022, recognised as a pioneer shaping the future of global gastronomy.

For her Nederburg dinners (28 and 29 October), Mmabatho will be collaborating with Andrew Nel of Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants, so you can expect creative modern interpretations of traditional Zulu food using the best ethically sourced meat.

Nederburg: Dinner Series at The Manor 2022 Wines

Each chef will select from the wide range of Nederburg wines (perhaps the handcrafted Heritage Heroes blends, or the classic Winemasters single varietals) to create their perfect pairings for each of the five courses.

It’s sure to be a night to remember!
