Nederburg Uncharted Sensory Wine Tasting + Dinner

Exploring the world of wine through new avenues is what Nederburg’s Dinners of Discovery are all about. This spring they steer into uncharted waters with a tasting experience that calls on all the senses… except your eyes! The Uncharted series immerses you in some evocative South African landscapes – while you’re blindfolded. So your sense of taste, smell, hearing and touch do the work. An exciting way of experiencing wine beyond the basics, the tasting is followed by a three-course dinner inspired by the same landscapes.

Nederburg Uncharted

The evening begins with a handwashing ritual, accompanied by cap classique and canapés, after which you take your seat for the Uncharted experience. Blindfolded and headset on, you’re transported by specially created soundscapes designed to evoke the character and atmosphere of its wine and corresponding landscape.

A cool, smooth pebble in your hands might be the tactile element connecting you to the West Coast, while scents of sea salt and lime highlight the aromatic profile of the wine. The familiar act of wine tasting becomes an exercise in imagination, memory and sensory discovery, as you experience the landscape through sound, touch and aroma before the wine itself is revealed.

Dinner discovery

Moving to dinner, the journey of discovery continues as the aromas and landscapes explored during the tasting are built upon by three courses designed by head chef Llewellyn Solomons to pair with the wines and complete the experience.
