With centuries of history behind them, the heritage buildings of Oude Werf Hotel have seen many a celebration. This September, the tree-shaded courtyards will resonate with the sounds of live jazz as their annual Sip the Season event welcomes spring with open arms and cap classique bubbling over.

It’s reason enough to head to Stellenbosch and enjoy the budding spring greens of the oak-lined streets, before settling in to relax for an afternoon of sipping, as some of the best Cape wine farms bring their bubblies to your glass.

If you’re a lover of cap classique this is a chance to explore the latest vintages from renowned local wine farms including Boschendal, Le Grande Domaine, Kleine Zalze, Lourensford, Villiera, De Grendel, Saltare, Peter Falke, Klein Welmoed, Agronomist and Survivor. There will be light bites to complement the bubbles, and Wild Peacock (the legendary supplier of so many fine-dining restaurants) will be shucking and serving fresh oysters (they will also have a selection of special delicacies available to purchase, so foodies be ready for temptation).

What would a spring afternoon of bubbly be without the soundtrack of soulful beats? Well-known Cape Town jazz guitarist and vocalist Richard Ceasar provides the musical accompaniment to the afternoon, as spring sunshine lights up the scene.
