Joostenberg Wine Estate: Farm, Vineyard + Winery Walks

Fresh air, vineyard views, organic wine and family farm magic.

The Kraal Farm Walks
The Kraal Farm Walks

The Myburgh family have called Joostenberg Wine Estate home for five generations. The historic cluster of manor house and farm buildings, oak trees and indigenous gardens feels like it hasn’t changed in all that time, but the old wagon house is now a welcoming tasting room, the vines are farmed organically with innovative regenerative farming practices, and the old farm kraal serves delicious alfresco farm-to-fork lunches on weekends. The six farm walks (followed by a wine-tasting) are an invitation to the heart of the farm and family, as owner and winemaker Tyrrel Myburgh and the winemaking team share their stories.

Vineyard and winery walks

The Kraal Farm Walk Vineyard

Welcomed with tea or coffee and pastries in the tasting room, you’ll meet Tyrrel and the winemaking team, then head off to explore the farm with them, hearing their insights into regenerative and organic farming and winemaking. Each walk differs according to the season and the winery and farm activities happening at the time. You’ll stroll through the vineyards, see the renosterveld rejuvenation project and the farm gardens – from flowers to herbs, vegetables and indigenous flora. Back at the historic werf, the experience ends with a visit to the winery and a complimentary tasting of Joostenberg’s organic wines.

Surrounded by old whitewashed stone walls and shaded by fruit and olive trees, The Kraal is the perfect spot for a relaxed, alfresco lunch. Served at long wooden tables on the stoep and under umbrellas on the lawn, chef Munetaka Kimura’s delicious and generous menu is based on seasonal, local, organic produce and wild herbs from the farm – the perfect accompaniment to wines from the organic vineyards. As an alternative to this superb three-course farm feast, you can choose a light lunch platter of local cheeses, relishes, homemade bread and salad.
Cost R170 (light cheese lunch)
R565 (three-course lunch)

A fuss-free, gesellige Saturday in the Winelands, filled with down-to-earth farm magic.
