A return to the Constantia Valley for this celebrated chef.
Chef Peter Tempelhoff, chef-patron of innercity fine-dining restaurant FYN, returns to his old stomping ground, the Constantia Winelands, to open a restaurant – at Buitenverwachting, no less. Beyond, which takes its name from Buitenverwachting (beyond expectations), is housed in the space formerly occupied by chef Edgar Osojnik’s restaurant, which the Austrian chef ran for more than two decades before it closed during lockdown in 2020.
Peter is not revealing much at this stage; what we do know is the location is sure to be impressive, and guests can expect an entirely different offering to FYN. “Each time I walk through the doors and stare out across the vineyards, the old adage remains true even in the toughest of times: the key to a successful restaurant (food and service aside) is location, location, location – plus local support! And this space has both in heaps!” said the excited chef.
“This has been a particularly hard year,” he continues, “but… there is a light at the end of the dark tunnel… We are able to create 25 new jobs.”
In a full-circle move, Peter returns to the Constantia Valley, where he headed Greenhouse restaurant at The Cellars Hohenort for many years before opening FYN in town. Julia du Toit, also from FYN, will be joining Beyond as head chef alongside Nicholas Walker as manager and the menu.
This sort of news is exactly what we needed during such tumultuous times in the industry, especially since the new venture is creating 25 much-needed jobs. Reservations via email can be made from Friday, 27 November. We are beyond excited!
