Bringing creative downtime and fab café food to the Winelands.
Clay Café’s much-loved format, of ceramic painting, good coffee and easy café food, has a fabulous new home on the historic Groot Parys wine estate in Paarl. The beautifully restored 1709 manor house spills out onto wide lawns with trampolines and child-friendly play areas, and views over the Drakenstein Mountains and Paarl Rock.
Foodie foundations
The Clay Café family (Chris Irving, son Michael and partner Jade Bradburn) have brought in OG foodie and culinary consultant, Tamsin Snyman (daughter of the late great author and culinary guru, Lannice Snyman), to pour her hospitality and food expertise into the new cafe. “We’ve taken our collective experience from the groups’ other restaurants and created a style of food and service to suit our new Paarl and Winelands clientele,” says Tamsin. “We have spent the last few months training our new staff in the Hout Bay and Bree Street cafés and now we can’t wait to meet and serve our local families and their friends. This may very well be our best venue yet!”
Coming soon
Over the next few months, the team will be adding an artisanal food retail space and boutique wine shop right next door to the café.
In the meantime, Winelands’ families can get creative in these gorgeous surroundings, relax, paint and play.
