The Dark Horse on Kloof Street: A Vibey Watering Hole With an Urban(e) Edge

More than meets the eye...

From the team behind the popular Black Sheep restaurant, this aptly named watering hole on upper Kloof Street is a cornucopia of surprises that only begin to reveal themselves as your evening progresses.

The eclectic-glam interiors are evident the minute you walk through the door, but it’s only once you’ve taken a sip of a tongue-wagging cocktail, and had your first bite of one of the scrumptious small plates that you understand there’s a lot more to this venue than meets the eye.

The Dark Horse Kloof Street

Inside, electric-blue walls lined to the brim with antique art and collectables, a sumptuous deep-buttoned velvet-green couch, backlit bar and scattering of small tables create a plush and whimsical atmosphere. Outside, benches on the street-facing patio are the perfect place to people-watch, while the upstairs rooftop deck,  dotted with succulents and mood lighting, boasts stunning views of Table Mountain and the city beyond.

Top-notch tipples

A dazzling array of cocktails, ranging from classic to innovative, are shaken, stirred, whizzed and poured by a talented team of bartenders. Think lemon-drop martinis, gin fizzes, whiskey sours, cosmopolitans, and Manhattans, to name a few. And if you’re in the mood for something simpler, there’s an extensive drinks menu of wine, beer, cider, spirits and the like.
