Fairview Goatshed Restaurant: Generous All-Day Dining
Family-friendly country comfort-food where the goats do roam.

Fairview’s iconic spiral goat tower has been a star attraction for generations of kids, but the creamy chevin cheeses are just the start of what this family-owned Paarl Winelands farm brings to the table. Perusing the Goatshed Restaurant’s breakfast and lunch menus, you’ll notice mention of Red Angus herds, free-range lamb and chickens, happy gourmet pigs (who dine on whey from the cheese-making, vegetable trimmings from the restaurant and spent hops from beer-making), all raised sustainably on the farm. Fairview even grows its own wheat for the in-house bakery.
Farm to fork

Chef SJ Nel makes the most of this cornucopia of fresh farm produce in a varied but down-to-earth menu. Beef from the Angus herd shows up in succulent burgers, the popular beef shin pies, and straightforward sirloin steaks. Check the daily specials chalkboard too – a delicious beef carpaccio was a highlight of our visit. Thin-crust pizzas with creative toppings (we recommend the brie, artichoke and caramelised onion), open sandwiches, generous salads and harvest bowls offer plenty of choice for vegans and vegetarians too.
Platters showcasing artisanal cow’s milk and goat’s cheeses, and charcuterie (made for Fairview by charcutier extraordinaire Neil Jewell) are also not to be missed.
Farm to glass

Owner Charles Back’s dedication to sustainable farming applies equally to Fairview’s wines. From the popular and punny Goats do Roam, to creamy cap classique with a Rhone twist, and the experimental small batch Bloemcool range, all their wines are available in the restaurant at cellar-door prices.
The setting

The Goatshed’s recent refurb, with light colours and smooth wooden tables, has added a fresh, light-hearted layer to the historic farm building’s heritage feel: the long main room with its dark wood beams is decorated with ancestral portraits of the goats and colourful still-life murals. Or sit looking out towards the goat tower on the comfortable reed-ceilinged, enclosed verandah, or down the steps on the outdoor terrace.

Good to know Vegans will find a dairy-free cheese platter, non-dairy ice creams, plant-based milkshakes and several vegan dishes on the menu.
Visit the farm deli after lunch to shop for all your favourite Fairview speciality cheeses, free-range meats and produce.
