Chef Arno Janse van Rensburg has been on a culinary journey around the world since he closed Janse & Co in 2021, taking in off-the-beaten track destinations from Bhutan to Alaska. Back home now, he’s bringing food inspiration from all those wild places to pair with home-grown low-intervention wines in a welcoming new wine bar called Fieldblend in Simon’s Town. An old Victorian ironwork portico on the main road near the harbour invites you in, and you can expect the down to earth and authentic approach to seasonal cooking that he’s always done so well.

His vision is to provide an accessible gateway into world-class South African wines, pairing them with seasonal small plates to showcase local terroir alongside Arno’s food memories of specific places around the world from his epic journey. The name Fieldblend refers to the practice of cultivating multiple grape varieties together in a single vineyard, harvesting them simultaneously, and fermenting them as one to create a wine that truly expresses the authentic character of its place of origin.

Authentic, welcoming and individual, a very good reason to put Simon’s Town on your summer to-do list.
