Unfussy French-inspired seasonal fare and top-drawer take-home deli items.

Joostenberg Bistro’s flavoursome cuisine, excellent organic wines and rustic country atmosphere are just the thing for kicking back with friends and family in a wonderful Winelands setting. Old-school hospitality, a lovely deli and beautiful gardens enhance the overall experience.

Conveniently situated between Stellenbosch, Durbanville and Paarl, it’s the ideal spot to enjoy breakfast (including the option to order oysters with bubbly!) or delicious lunch before taking the opportunity to stock up your pantry and pick up some potted greenery for your garden.

The Bistro

Joostenberg Bistro and Deli 2022

In a homely setting, head chef Garth Bedford and his team have created menus that are ingredient-focused, made from scratch and cater to all tastes.

Joostenberg Bistro and Deli Breakfast Food

The breakfast menu is as varied as it is flavour-packed, and features the likes of croque monsieur, naturellement; homemade toasted muesli with fresh fruit and local yoghurt; French toast with fynbos honey and bacon; omelettes, croissants and classic farm breakfasts.

Later in the day, lunch offers everything from cheese and charcuterie platters to pan-fried linefish, free-range beef burgers, slow-braised lamb or pickled pork tongue.

On Wednesdays, there’s a brilliant-value plat du jour (R95), offering something different each week, and every Sunday, of course, there’s a succulent roast and a choice of seasonal dishes to choose from.

The Deli

Joostenberg Deli Selection

Why head to a crowded supermarket when you could do your weekly grocery shopping in an authentic farm setting? Joostenberg’s wonderful deli is filled with the cream of the crop, sourced from a variety of trusted local producers, farmers and purveyors or made in Joostenberg’s kitchen.

There’s a full range of deli items: cheeses, preserves, sauces, cold meats, just-picked seasonal fruit and vegetable boxes, freshly made bakes and pastries, eggs, seafood, fresh meat, dry goods, ready-to-eat frozen meals, desserts and, of course, wine at cellar-door prices. This is also where you’re likely to find that hard-to-source ingredient for a specific recipe, fresh flowers and handmade decor and kitchen utensils.

Great outdoors

While you’re there, take the opportunity to wander through the farm gardens, let the kids run free on the lawns, enjoy the surroundings and soak up some fresh air and tranquillity.

Klein Joostenberg is also home to not one but three nurseries, catering for everyone from newbie gardeners and nature lovers to green-fingered enthusiasts. There’s Ludwig’s Roses for hundreds of the prettiest blooms, Stone Crop Trading that specialises in succulents, and Route2Leaf for everything else.
