Oak Terrace & Bistro: Cosy yet Elegant Dining with Spectacular Garden Views
Cosy fireside dining and sunny alfresco meals on the terrace.
By Inside Guide • 13 August 2025
The tranquil gardens and historic setting of Oak Terrace & Bistro in this tucked-away corner of the Helderberg Winelands create a charming escape from the everyday bustle. The manor house, with its tall sash windows, wide fireplace and library shelves, evokes another era and creates an intimate country-house feel, perfect for cosy winter dining. When the sun shines the wide, umbrella-shaded terrace beckons, promising carefree lunches under blooming magnolias, or romantic starlit dinners.

The service is warm and welcoming, the seasonal menu wholesome and delicious, and the ambience serene, just right for relaxed meet-ups with friends and effortless family gatherings (children are welcome too, with a tailored menu just for them).
A feast of seasonal flavour

On the winter menu (which spans lunch and dinner), the bold flavours of Cape Malay butter chicken or a slow-braised lamb shank with tamatie bredie sauce reflect the hearty traditions of Cape cuisine. There are West Coast oysters, salt and pepper squid, wild mushroom potato gnocchi, and smoked brisket burgers, double smash cheeseburgers, and dry-aged steaks; so there’s something for every appetite and mood (sandwiches and salads too). And of course luscious desserts and cakes, from a glazed rooibos cheesecake to a Marula malva.

Afternoon tea

The tranquil setting inspires that most delightfully decadent of traditions, a china-clinking, macaron-nibbling afternoon tea… Indulge in an elegant array of savoury and sweet bites inspired by local flavours: smoked trout roulades, BLT oopsies, freshly baked mini scones served with cream, cheese and preserves. Then there’s rooibos and berry cheesecake, and peppermint crisp macarons – nostalgic classics, lovingly reimagined. Add a glass (or two) of bubbly from their curated winelist for an even more celebratory sense of occasion.

Breakfast

Whether you’re a guest at the hotel or a local looking for a morning treat, the winter breakfast menu has plenty of hearty delights to start the day off right. Think a rich shakshuka, eggs Royale topped with smoked Lourensford trout, or a signature full breakfast. Or indulge in the brioche-and-cardamom-custard decadence of the koeksister French toast, along with fresh smoothies and locally roasted coffee.

Feelgood Fridays

Live music on select summer Fridays transforms the Oak Terrace into the place to ease into the weekend, dining in relaxed style under the oak trees. On other occasions, a smooth yet upbeat playlist sets the mood, as sunset skies fade into moonlit evenings.

Birds sing, flowers bloom, and laughter drifts through the air, with blue skies and cool spring breezes – this fynbos-filled oasis brims with warmth, flavour and a deep sense of place.
