Peter Gilder: A Luxury Jewellery Studio at Constantia Village
A destination for bespoke jewellery and fine jewellery collections.
By Inside Guide • 03 August 2026
“Big city jeweller in the country,” read the newspaper headline when Peter Gilder opened his jewellery store in Constantia back in 1984. Sceptics thought there’d be no demand for his bespoke craftsmanship and specialist gemstones in what was then still a rural Winelands suburb, but it soon became a landmark destination for those looking for a special piece. More than 40 years on, Peter Gilder is still a family business, with highly skilled master goldsmiths and setters working in the on-site studio to create fine jewellery collections, bespoke pieces and remodelling treasured heirlooms for a new generation.
Building on the legacy

Jewellery designer Anene van Staden joined Peter immediately after graduating from CPUT and learned the craft from the ground up, working alongside him for many years. On his retirement in 2022, she took over the business. “It is an incredible privilege to continue the legacy Peter built over so many years,” she says. “Every piece we create tells a unique story, and my passion is transforming our clients’ ideas, memories, and milestones into timeless jewellery that will be treasured for generations.”
Curated collections

Every diamond, gemstone and finished piece is personally hand-selected by Anene. “We are committed to sourcing natural, ethically sourced gemstones wherever possible,” she says, “and creating jewellery with honesty, integrity, and exceptional craftsmanship.” She designs collections that are timeless, individual and discerning, with craftsmanship and wearability in mind. An eternity ring set with a rainbow of sapphires might catch your eye, a classic cushion-cut diamond, or the playful elegance of the all-African Tutti Frutti bracelet featuring tanzanite, rhodolite garnet and amethyst.
“By combining traditional techniques with contemporary design, we remain dedicated to upholding the uncompromising standards of quality, service, and attention to detail that Peter established when he founded the business,” says Anene. Each piece is crafted by hand in the on-site studio with four highly skilled goldsmiths capturing every detail with exceptional quality and precision.
Bespoke design

Sitting down with Anene and the design team to brainstorm ideas and bring your vision to life is one of the joys of the bespoke service. For a truly personalised engagement ring that reflects your story, a special necklace to mark a milestone, or a bracelet or earrings to celebrate an occasion, you’ll have expert guidance through every step of the journey, from choosing the gemstones to deciding on a design that is deeply personal and solely yours.
New life for unworn jewellery

If you have inherited treasured heirlooms or pieces with sentimental value that don’t quite fit your style, or have unworn contemporary pieces lying forgotten in a tangle of gold chains at the bottom of your jewellery box, remodelling is another signature service on offer. Using the gold and gemstones, Anene and team might suggest small design adjustments or a complete remodel to create something entirely new, transforming them into contemporary pieces you’ll love to wear, while preserving their sentimental value.

This is jewellery designed to be worn, loved and passed down through generations… the heirlooms of the future, where every piece tells a story.
