Just a short drive from Stellenbosch, the elegant glass-walled café at Lievland Vineyards has two fires burning: one on either side of the room. With its peaceful views over the farm dam, towering oaks and verdant vines, it’s an ideal setting for a cosy winter brunch with friends and family. Which is exactly what the Lievlove Brunch is designed for. The generous menu comes in three parts, and includes a glass of Lievland Vineyards Cap classique 2020 or freshly squeezed orange juice to start you off. Dig into shared platters of charcuterie and cheese with fresh bread, seed crackers and Melba toast, plus pickles, hummus, grilled vegetables, sun-dried tomato relish and spicy aubergine. Then it’s time for a choice of hot breakfast dishes:
- brioche French toast with mascarpone and apple and pear compote
- cheesy baked spinach and gammon-filled pancake with salad
- Klein Liev: 1 free-range egg, belly rasher, pork and fennel sausage, tomato smoor and toast
Finish off with a selection of dessert pastries as you sip tea or coffee. A seasonal fruit and almond tartlet, canelé and chocolate truffles make for a suitably decadent finale. The prettiest of Winelands settings to while away a cool winter morning and a lavish brunch to celebrate any occasion.
