Add world-class art to your Winelands experience.
Internationally acclaimed South African photographer Zanele Muholi is the first artist to be featured in the new gallery space at Boschendal Manor House.
A collaboration between Cape Town-based Norval Foundation and the Franschhoek wine estate, the gallery aims to create a unique and extraordinary visitor experience and showcase a changing series of exhibitions of contemporary African art (every three or four months).
Old meets new
Already known for its wine, food and outdoor activities, Boschendal now also offers a noteworthy dose of art and culture. The centuries-old Manor House creates a provocative space in which to view modern artworks from our continent in a different light – creating a nuanced dialogue between past and present.
Muholi’s ongoing self-portrait series, Somnyama Ngonyama (Hail, the Dark Lioness), has featured at London’s Tate Modern, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, New York’s Brooklyn Museum and many others all over Europe and the Americas.
In addition to this photo exhibition, the grounds surrounding the Manor House will also showcase outdoor art. Currently, you can see large-scale works by Kyle Morland and iconic 20th-century SA sculptor Eduordo Villa.
A bespoke art retail shop has also been introduced, including ceramics by Githan Coopoo specially designed for Boschendal, that complements the farm’s existing range of locally sourced goods.
