In the age of technology and too much screen time, any activity that encourages children to explore the outdoors is worth gold. Not only does it instil in them an appreciation for nature, it provides an invaluable service for parents, too!
The Tree House at Boschendal is one such place. Offering children of all ages a wonderful variety of authentic farm experiences, this dedicated outdoor edu-play centre seamlessly combines learning with play. The entire programme – as well as the way in which The Tree House and its facilities were conceived and built – is rooted in sustainability, a philosophy that’s imparted via various fun and educational activities.
The treehouse itself is, of course, the main attraction, offering children an immersive playground with hiding spots, a slide and a rope bridge. But that’s before you’ve even scratched the surface. There’s also a host of nature-filled activities that are planned and supervised by The Tree House team, including nature walks, arts and crafts, and farm-related cooking classes.
The Tree House is open from 10am to 10pm, seven days a week, and caters for children between the ages of four and 14 years old. Guests are welcome to leave their children in the care of the team, while they enjoy a meal at The Werf, the estate’s restaurant, famed for its flavourful farm-to-table fare (courtesy of executive chef Christiaan Campbell, under whose tenure the restaurant earned a sustainability award in 2018).
Parents need only drop their children off at reception 15 minutes prior to the booked activity, and the team will take it from there.
- The service is only available to patrons of The Werf Restaurant or guests of the Boschendal cottages.
- Parents need to book their children in at least 24 hours in advance.
