Brenda’s Deli at Spice Route: An Aromatic Foodie Mecca

A treasure trove for foodies, Brenda de Jager’s glorious deli at Spice Route in the Paarl Winelands wafts with scents of the North African souk: saffron, cinnamon, cumin perfume the air. Shelves are stacked with colourful rows of preserves and cordials, baked goods, oils and balsamics –it’s a veritable pantry of pleasure. The deli space feels like a traditional farm kitchen and gives onto a wide farmhouse stoep with those breathtaking Spice Route views, a lovely space to sit and relax for a while in between shopping.

Gifts spiced with globe-trotting glitter

Brenda has been scouring the globe – India in particular – to stock up her Summer pop-up shop. She brought back beautiful copper pieces, linens and textiles that solve all your Christmas and New Year gift conundrums. You’ll find this special collection in the Spice Route cellars on weekends. She’s also created enticing gift boxes and hampers featuring preserves, jams, chutneys, spices and cordials – ideal last-minute gifts for anyone of a foodie persuasion.

Spice mixing

In addition to the Summer Pop-up, Brenda’s Deli is open all year round. Breathe in the heady aromas and create your own spice mixes for Moroccan tagines and exotic curries, or personalise a mix of herbs and spices for a grinder, at one of Brenda’s spice-blending workshops.

Sugar and spice and all things nice… that’s what Brenda’s Deli is made of!
