Chamonix Wine Farm: Wine-Tasting + Game Drives In Franschhoek

Start spreading the gnus: wildebeest in the vineyards, with vino on the side!

Just over an hour’s drive from Cape Town lies a wildlife reserve populated by a variety of game, that’ll make you feel like you’re in the wilderness without having to venture too far from the city.

On Chamonix Wine Estate, you can do all that – while also enjoying a range of premium wines – for a day in Franschhoek you won’t soon forget.

Denizens of the reserve include ostrich, zebra, wildebeest, bontebok and springbok (with plans to add a giraffe soon). Guests who choose to stay over at Chamonix Game Lodges could awake to find some of these creatures grazing a few feet from their patio.

The private reserve is generally not open to the public, but the Chamonix Wine & Game Drives offer plenty of opportunity to see the wildlife as you are driven through the estate’s expansive vineyards.

Along the way, you’ll also get to taste some of the estate’s award-winning wines, within the specific vineyards where they are grown. These vineyards include what Chairman Chris Hellinger refers to as Baboon “Koppie”, the estate’s highest vineyard where pinot noir vines are cultivated.
