Chart Farm: Rose-Picking at a Scenic Farm in Wynberg

A fragrant bunch of hand-picked roses is the acme of luxury. In our books, anyway. And spending time wandering between rosebeds of scented beauties is a treat in itself… Fragrance hanging heavy in the air, velvet smooth petals from deep damask red to delicate pink, and the promise of buds tentatively unfurling. Chart Farm in Wynberg (a mere 15-minute drive from the city centre), is home to a large garden filled with a variety of roses in almost every colour you can imagine. It also happens to be the only place in the Cape peninsula where you can pick your own, from mid-October right up until June (sometimes even July, depending on the weather).

Build your own bouquet

Anytime you want to spoil a loved one (or yourself) with a beautiful bouquet, give yourself the treat of time in the garden among the flowers, and pick a personalised bunch of perfect blooms that are guaranteed to be fresh and fragrant.

On arrival at the farmstall, pick up a pair of secateurs and bucket to use for picking (or bring your own to avoid disappointment on busy days), before you head into the garden to browse for your blooms. After your picking session, you are charged per stem, so you can pick as few or as many as you like. And if you are pushed for time, the farmstall has ready-picked buckets of roses to make up a bouquet on the run.

When you’re done picking roses…

Have a cup of tea and scones at Chart Farm Café while gazing out over views of the Constantia Valley. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, with an array of cakes to tempt you into a quick coffee break in-between picking. And at the farmstall next door, you can also stock up on tasty treats and fresh produce to take home.
