This is the way to drink wine in winter!
With panoramic views of Table Mountain, the bay and surrounding countryside and vineyards, Durbanville Hills offers a quintessential Winelands experience only 20 minutes away from Cape Town’s city centre.
Known for its diverse array of easy-drinking wines, Durbanville Hills has something for everyone’s taste and pocket. Part of the enjoyment is tasting the wine in its place of origin, paired with a delicious meal. This season, Durbanville Hills has taken it a step further… In a first for the Cape Winelands, Durbanville Hills is now offering a hot chocolate and wine pairing.
Wine and chocolate is a classic combination, but for this limited-edition, cold-weather pairing, four red wines are paired with four hand-crafted chocolate bombs. They’re specially designed to be infused and melted in steaming hot milk, and then the wine is added (as much or as little as you’d like) to enhance the flavours and bring a silky-smooth indulgence to the hot drink.
The heavenly hot chocolate and wine combinations are:
- cabernet sauvignon with coffee and hazelnut
- merlot with mint and dark chocolate
- pinotage with Turkish delight with cherry dark chocolate
- shiraz with cinnamon and nutmeg
Don’t let winter pass you by without trying this indulgent, limited-edition treat. Booking is essential.
Duration 45 minutes
Available 19 July to 30 September 2022 (subject to loadshedding)
Taste the difference
In addition to hot chocolate, Durbanville Hills offers pairings with cheese; artisanal chocolates; or biltong and dried fruit.
There’s also a Crystal Tasting: five selected wines from the Collectors Reserve range and cellar-door exclusive wines. The Awards Tasting is the best of the best – seven winning wines including a bubbly, sauvignon blancs, merlot, red blends and a potstill brandy.
The Collectors Reserve Tasting is a two-hour immersion in the art of winemaking, featuring seven wines paired with different foods and a cellar tour of the third-largest cellar in South Africa, with towering 60 000-litre tanks!
The modern Tasting Room has comfortable seating perfectly positioned for the views (whether in the bar area or lounge), and downstairs are alfresco tables under olive trees where you can get a casual bite (think platters, hake and chips, sandwiches). The estate is also home to The Tangram Restaurant.
