A Heli-Biking Adventure in Jonkershoek Above Stellenbosch

A magical arena of breathtaking mountain scenery, Jonkershoek Nature Reserve is a magnet for mountain-bike enthusiasts. As you fly in by helicopter (your mountain-bike safely stowed in the aviation-approved heli-bike rack), you’ll see the extensive network of handcrafted MTO Trails laid out below you. The flight drops you at the top of the mountain, allowing you the adrenaline rush of flowing downhill on some of South Africa’s most legendary trails. This is the ultimate trip for a mountain-biker, whatever your level of experience.

Trails for all riders

Your guide for the day is ex-professional mountain-biker, Kyle Gifford, head of eco-tourism at MTO Trails Jonkershoek. He and his team know the trails inside out, and will advise you on the perfect trail to suit your experience. Smooth but exhilarating non-technical trails for beginners; fast and flowing single track, with rolling rises and jumps, rocky technical sections and hand-sculpted berms for the more advanced. Red Phoenix, Never-Ending Story and The Plumber are a few of the legendary rides to choose from.

And when you reach the end of a downhill psyched to do more, your personal helicopter makes that a breeze, whisking you back to the top for another ride of a lifetime.

Good to know Non-cycling partners can join the trip to hike the trails, or stay with the helicopter, and meet you for brunch after your ride.
Bring your own bikes, or mountain-bike hire can be arranged.
