A blissful spa escape like no other.
At the heart of the V&A Waterfront, One&Only Cape Town takes luxury to the next level at its unique island spa – a state-of-the-art wellness centre surrounded by private waterways and lush greenery. Offering an enticing variety of treatments, the acclaimed spa is a many-times winner of South Africa’s Best Spa at the World Spa Awards. Even better, it’s just had a magnificent makeover
Heaven is calling
For the new look, the designers drew on our sparkling southern skies and the symbolism of the Southern Cross, which has guided people on their journey since ancient times. Custom lighting has been used to ethereal effect – from candles and copper “constellation” lights to multi-hued bulbs, and a starry sky on the ceiling to gaze at while floating in the vitality pool.
Reimagined by Muza Lab (the team behind the hotel’s refurbishment and ROOI restaurant), the spa is a dreamscape of deep blues, greys and floaty white fabrics, interspersed with nature’s textures that create an overriding sense of soulful tranquillity – think earthy, organic-shaped ceramics, lots of wood, a chandelier-like rope art installation in reception…
A world-class spa
The spa has 13 private treatment suites (including two for couples), where you can enjoy a range of holistic, nature- and Cape-inspired experiences tailored to pure relaxation and your own wellness journey, designed by spa and beauty experts ESPA and Biologique Recherche, along with luxe footcare by renowned Studio Bastien Gonzalez.
Your visit starts and ends in the Thermal Suites – a collection of superb hydrotherapy facilities including wood-walled saunas, bubbling vitality pools, aromatic steam rooms and experience showers – where you’ll be given a plush robe and slippers for the duration of your stay,
Between treatments, the Relax Lounge offers snacks (healthy and sweet treats), fresh juices and herbal teas, all allocated into “wellness pillars” (Sleep, Probiotic, Indulgence and so on). Or head to the Zen-like courtyard outside where lush plants, comfortable cushioned benches and the mesmerising sound of water features will enhance your relaxation journey.
Full Moon magic
In line with its new celestial aesthetic, once a month the One&Only Spa offers a special menu of treatments and experiences inspired by renewal. It starts with a sound bowl journey at dusk, followed by a footbath ceremony, breathwork, chakra balancing and meditation.
There are also three bespoke spa treatments inspired by the phases of the moon:
- The Empowerment Ritual, using jade rollers and annointing oil in a full-body massage.
- The Harmonising Ritual, using an Indian kansa wand for a slow, sensory massage.
- The Stardust Sole Ritual, which involves a foot scrub and full leg, hot-oil massage to calm and rebalance mind and body.
The Signature experience
Treat yourself to a full day of leisurely indulgence and poolside serenity. Enjoy one of the spa’s unique signature treatments, then explore the range of hydrotherapy and thermal facilities, with chill sessions in the Relax Lounge in-between.
The Signature spa treatments:
- Essence of Cape Town (2 hours) – a top-to-toe experience inspired by the sea and fynbos, including sea-salt exfoliation, a heated kelp wrap and full-body massage.
- Table Mountain Tonic (2 hours) – harnessing indigenous healing herbs, this treatment includes a full-body scrub, warmed poultice massage and heady aromas.
- African Journey (1.5 hours) – using rooibos and other African botanicals, this full-body treatment includes a rungu-stick massage and tea ceremony.
You can also book spa packages: a half-day Island Escape (including a scrub, facial and massage) or full-day Island Retreat (a body wrap, facial and empowering ritual) with a healthy spa lunch included, and full access to the hydrotherapy facilities.
