The impressive grounds of Quoin Rock Wine Estate in Stellenbosch set the scene for private picnics with family and friends.
On the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountains stands the impressive Quoin Rock Wine Estate, best known, perhaps, for Gâte, its accolade-accruing molecular-gastronomy restaurant.
Out of sight from the popular restaurant, beautifully manicured gardens dotted with mystical sculptures give way to eight custom-built, fully equipped picnic pods – the perfect setting to enjoy a gourmet picnic with friends and family.
Gâte Picnics in the time of Covid
Each of the eight outdoor picnic pergolas is spaced more than 10 meters apart from the others, offering the utmost privacy while adhering to health and safety regulations. Plus, a FatSac (poof) is included in each setup, for those who prefer to recline…
What’s more, each guest will receive their own cutlery and glassware delivered safely to the picnic table by a personalised waiter. And, to make the experience even more private, you will be given a walkie talkie on arrival that you can use to communicate with your waiter throughout your visit. Simply press a button, and they’ll be on hand to service your every whim.
Inside each hamper guests can expect a freshly baked baguette with artisanal butters; basil and pesto-cream dip; foie gras; fresh snoek pâté and a local cheese and charcuterie selection. The basket also includes a butternut, baby mixed leaves and feta salad; beetroot, baby mixed leaves and goat’s cheese salad; a fresh poké bowl; smoked salmon wrap; roasted lamb on Moroccan couscous; as well as pina colada and coconut panna cotta. Vegetarians and vegans are catered for, too.
Bottomless bottled water is also included, and estate wine can be purchased by the glass or bottle. Feeling decadent? Might we suggest the MCC and oysters option?
Children are catered for with their own custom baskets of rootstock crisps; a baguette (cheese or ham and cheese) or mac and cheese; a chocolate or strawberry milkshake; a handmade cookie and seasonal berries.
Good to know The hampers are entirely plastic-free, and all ingredients have been sustainably sourced. You will also need to pay a deposit to secure the booking.
