SUP Cape Town: Guided Canal + Ocean Tours
See the Waterfront, Century City and Granger Bay from the water.
By Inside Guide • 22 September 2025
Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUPing) has seen an upsurge in popularity over the past decade – but in truth, it’s been around a lot longer than most other known sports. Ancient fishermen made their living off it, and African warriors made effective use of it when launching stealth attacks (using their spears as paddles).
Whether roaming the canals of the V&A Waterfront like a Venetian gondolier, or gliding across the open ocean with the marine world swimming beneath you, standing up on a paddleboard allows you to experience the joys of being on water on two legs.
SUP Cape Town’s recently expanded offering ranges from self-guided excursions to guided tours, in three locations: the V&A Waterfront canals, and the open ocean in Granger Bay. All necessary equipment is provided, as well as a brief introduction to SUPing before your excursion. An experienced guide will ensure your safety throughout.
Individual and shared options

Whether you’re keen to cruise the canals at your leisure, brave the open ocean on a 90-minute guided tour or experience the canals at night on a magical glow-in-the-dark SUP, there really is something for everyone. Children are welcome (the minimum age depends on the selected package) and the required experience level ranges from none to intermediate.

If you’re looking for an original kids’ party idea, this is it.
