The Watershed at the V&A
The Waterfront’s harbourside craft market gets a mod makeover.
By Michelle de Bruin • 26 September 2014
At the beginning of 2014 the V&A Waterfront embarked on a R50-million reconstruction project of the Blue Shed and Workshop 17, now called The Watershed. The new light and airy street-style retail space is able to accommodate a wider product offering in the form of small businesses – 150 of them – selling art, ceramics, craft, fashion and accessories, furniture and furnishings, gifts, jewellery, curios and textiles.
Set to open in October, some of the shops we can’t wait to visit are Essie Letterpress, a design and print studio that produces bespoke stationery; Strato, a unisex clothing brand that offers sport-meets-fashion garments; Jasper Eales Original, a product designer whose design-savvy eco-friendly products (from bicycle racks and wooden bats to surfboards and coffee tables) focus on essentialism and sustainability; and Zizamele Ceramics, highly sought-after and collectable ceramic pieces.
