Arlo & Co: Design-Led Apartment Living in the Heart of the City
A vibrant new chapter for a landmark building on St George’s Mall.
By Inside Guide • 27 July 2026
A buzz is building within Cape Town’s compact city centre, as a growing number of apartment developments connect locals and visitors to the covetable walkable innercity lifestyle. And the radius is spreading. The daytime bustle of Greenmarket Square and the pedestrian precinct of St George’s Mall are the backdrop to the reimagining of a landmark building (previously known as the Waldorf Arcade), for a new generation of city living. Arlo & Co is designed as a mixed-use development with apartments, co-working spaces and, at street level, a brand new Mojo Market that is sure to tap into the dynamic First Thursdays vibe of the restaurants, bars, galleries and boutiques on neighbouring Long, Loop and Bree Streets.
A new chapter

The redevelopment by Freedom Properties keeps the character of the original building, built in 1988 in monumental post-modernist style, and occupying the whole depth of the block between St George’s Mall and Burg Street. The arcade of shops that connected the two streets, through the street-level heart of the building, transforms seamlessly into vibrant Mojo Greenmarket (sibling to Mojo Market in Sea Point and combining boutique food outlets, bars and live entertainment), while the central open-air courtyard atrium becomes a green, plant-festooned sociable space in which residents can relax. Fourteen floors up, a rooftop pool deck and serviced clubhouse looks out over the city skyline to mesmerising views of Table Mountain and Signal Hill, with a swimming pool and clubhouse bar anchoring the communal space.

Throughout the building TwoFiveFive Architects have preserved the defining architectural heritage while introducing subtle Art Deco influences that create a timeless feel.
Hosted city living

With 276 studios, lofts and one- and two-bedroom apartments (most of which open onto balconies), Arlo & Co has been conceived on a hospitality-led aparthotel model. Professionally managed and operated by Revo Stay, this gives owners and investors flexibility. Residents can enjoy the services of a concierge and general manager, and make the most of the co-working spaces, rooftop swimming pool and fully equipped gym. While investors purchasing with a view to the short-term rental market have all the nitty-gritty managed for them, and a city centre address with all the amenities attractive to visitors.
Furniture collections

Even easier, an exclusive furniture package has been designed by Maison & Marble in collaboration with Hertex Haus, which allows buyers a seamless transition to moving into a fully furnished and professionally designed home, and allows investors to segue immediately into short-term letting.
