Clifton Beach is the Second-Best Beach in the World

Cape Town has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, so it’s not surprising that one of them has received this accolade.

Clifton Beach, on Cape Town’s dreamy Atlantic seaboard, is actually a series of four beaches – first, second, third and fourth – separated by large granite boulders. With its white sands, turquoise-coloured ocean and magnificent views, it was recognised by National Geographic as one of the best beaches in the world in January 2015.

What makes it so wonderful?

Firstly, when the southeaster wind makes its way to the Cape (which is pretty often), Clifton’s four beaches are unaffected. Their secluded spot, down a flight of stairs from the main road, ensures they are protected from the strong winds, ensuring perfect weather on most days.
The sunsets are amazing, with the vast ocean punctuated by gigantic black boulders.
It has Blue Flag Beach status – an international award given to beaches that are clean, have great amenities, are safe and environmentally conscious.

Clifton Beach is also recognised by the Travel Channel as one of the Top 10 Beaches in the World and by Forbes magazine as the eighth-best topless beach on the planet.
