The Cellars-Hohenort High Tea: A Celebration of SA Heritage
Honouring our rich, multicultural heritage.
By Inside Guide • 26 August 2021
The Cellars-Hohenort is a delightful country-style hotel in the heart of the Constantia Valley and, arguably, one of the loveliest spots to enjoy a sumptuous tea spread.
In celebration of Heritage Day 2021, its garden-facing Lounge and Conservatory Restaurant is hosting a South African-flavoured high tea on the weekend of 24 to 26 September. Guests will be treated to an assortment of homegrown flavours hailing from all corners of our country – from braais and biltong to Cape Malay vetkoek and Hertzoggies.
Around South Africa in 72 hours

Tea is served twice daily at 11am and 3pm in the Lounge and Sun Lounge – or on The Conservatory’s terrace if it’s sunny out. Each three-tiered stand is dotted with a selection of savoury and sweet treats. On the “salty” menu, guests can expect biltong-and-feta quiches; grass-fed beef and peppadew skewers; mini boerewors sausage rolls; Cape Malay mini vetkoek; sweetcorn samoosas; bhaji chilli bites; mussel-and-cream cheese shortbread; bobotie spring rolls with chutney dip; and mini chicken pie.
Those with a sweet tooth will be in their element with traditional koeksisters; trifle; Hertzoggies; Peppermint Crisp tart; mini milk tart; Amarula truffles; lemon meringue pie; mini malva bites; as well as mini scones served with strawberry jam and Chantilly cream.
The feast, naturally, includes tea or coffee.

We can’t think of a more relaxed yet flavourful way to celebrate this Heritage Day.
