The Women-in-Wine Dinner at One&Only Cape Town

The Women in Wine dinner at One&Only Cape Town is an annual reminder to put the spotlight on women winemakers who are breaking boundaries, gaining international recognition and championing diversity in the Western Cape. This year’s event is a collaboration with HER Wine Collection, a majority black, all-female team based at Schoon Organic Vineyard and Cellar in Paarl, who are crafting their own chapter in South Africa’s wine story. Their wines are paired with a four-course dinner at ROOI, the V&A Waterfront resort’s fire-themed restaurant, as winemaker Praisy Dlamini and team join guests to share their stories over the course of the evening.

It’s also an occasion to celebrate the women chefs behind the fire-kissed feast. Each of the four courses is named for the chef who created it. Chef Nosisi Mbuku presents a starter of grilled wagyu sirloin with burnt onion, truffle boulangère and biltong spice paired with the lively HER Chenin Blanc. Next Lorna Vitshima introduces her fired kingklip pastrami accompanied by a herb salad and smoked red pepper escabeche topped with fried capers and tossed in a fynbos vinaigrette. It’s paired with the fruity, zesty HER Sauvignon Blanc.

For the main course Azania Mana serves Rooikrans prime beef rump with smoked bone marrow, crushed baby potato and salsa verde butter to pair with the rich and welcoming HER Pinotage. And pastry chef Kutala Mona brings in a sweet finale of malva toast with whipped mascarpone, vanilla cream and salted apricot ice cream, a fitting conclusion to the celebratory evening with a pour of lip-smacking HER rosé (chenin with a kiss of pinotage).

While lingering over the specially curated menu, guests get to meet the inspiring women behind the wines and the food, in a delightful evening of storytelling and flavour.
