Stellenbosch Street Soirées: Fine Wines + Top-Notch Bites on Drostdy Street

A highlight on the Stellenbosch social calendar is undoubtedly the annual Street Soirées – a yearly celebration that embodies the charm, vibrancy and enviable lifestyle the City of Oaks promise! Now in their 11th year, the gatherings offer food and wine lovers an opportunity to sip and soak up all that makes this wonderful region so famous.

What to expect

For those who’ve never been (or have forgotten how it works), Drostdy Street, in the heart of the town, is closed off to traffic. Tables laden with food and wine are set up, cheerful bunting is strung up between the trees, and live music live pumps in readiness for a true neighbourhood party. All the surrounding shops, galleries and eateries also welcome revellers on the night.

At each event, visitors will receive a tasting glass and 10 tokens to try whichever wines they like (25 wine farms from the Stellenbosch Wine Route take part). Plus, a variety of food trucks and street-food vendors will be offering an array of sumptuous bites – from gourmet burgers (courtesy of chef Bertus Basson’s De Vrije Burger), samosas and half moons to roosterkoek and confectionery.

And the fun doesn’t have to end there. Stick around afterwards and enjoy dinner at one of Stellenbosch’s stunning restaurants (without having to get into your car), or continue the party at one of Stellenbosch’s array of wine bars.
