And Cape Town Furniture Week in February each year sees the launch of brand-new collections and puts the spotlight firmly on vibrant and innovative South African design.

Bofred

The design Sculptural, tactile, occupying a space between art and furniture, Christa Botha and Carla Erasmus draw on a shared love of travel and background in the fine arts when creating their vibrant collections for Bofred. The independent female-run furniture and lighting studio collaborates with Cape Town artisans, makers and manufacturers using natural materials like wood, clay, stone and metals for statement pieces that bring a whisper of exotic far-flung destinations to any contemporary interior.
The showroom At their showroom in the East City, discover standout pieces from past collections, such as the Bahla chair, the Kelp bench and the Alberto club chair, mingling with new pieces designed to live alongside them with forms that speak the same sculptural language. The new Cicada Collection debuts here in February 2026.

Pedersen + Lennard

The design Afro-Scandi is the phrase that founders Luke Pedersen and James Lennard coined to describe their aesthetic. Both with Scandinavian blood in their veins, for the past 15 years the duo has been designing and making distinctive pieces that would feel equally at home in a Karoo cottage or in a contemporary Cape Town penthouse. Designing and manufacturing everything under one roof at their solar-powered factory in Maitland, sustainability is at the core of their business, from the people to the designer furniture built to last several lifetimes.
The showroom A historic Victorian building in De Waterkant provides the backdrop to a wide range of the brand’s solid-oak furniture and playful accessories. Try out the Escarpment Armchair for comfort, explore warm timber finishes and colourful steel options, and browse lamps, laptop stands, and even a humble (yet iconic) dustpan and brush affectionately named the Skoppie.

Houtlander

The design From hobby carpenter to Swedish design exchange and a debut collection that gained a global audience, Phillip Hollander is driven by a love of timber. At Houtlander’s West Rand factory in Johannesburg, his team marries traditional techniques with 5-axis CNC technology for beautifully crafted pieces made from sustainably harvested oak. As well as practical oak furniture with a timeless appeal, they’ve won awards with their ‘collectable design’ range of sculptural benches, which have found homes in global collections such as the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
The showroom Climbing the worn wooden stairs to the first-floor showroom in Heritage House (just off Bree Street) is like walking into a home, especially with Houtlander’s pieces arranged in roomsets that feel like you could move in tomorrow. It’s a serene space to explore dining tables, the iconic curved milk bench, upholstered spindle-back couches, desk units and beds, and to feel the curves and silk-smooth finishes on every piece.

Tonic Design

The design Championing local craftsmanship and design since 1999, Greg Gamble and Philippe van der Merwe have built Tonic into one of South Africa’s best known interior and furniture design practices from their studio in a heritage home in Johannesburg. Instantly livable, their design ethos melds classic and contemporary, with sexy sofas, glossy servers, armchairs to sink into, each piece individually crafted by master South African artisans.
The showroom A Victorian building complete with broekie lace veranda right on Kloof Street is their atmospheric Cape Town home from home. Light and colourful roomsets showing trademark pieces look out at the world walking by, and are set off by exceptional artworks in a collaboration with Stevenson Gallery.

Wiid Design

The design Before founding Wiid Design in 2013, furniture and product designer Laurie Wiid van Heerden apprenticed at Bronze Age Foundry, where he worked alongside a carpenter and assisted sculptor Wim Botha. This hands-on grounding shaped a self-taught, material-led approach that sits between collectible design and art. He reconsiders form, tactility and function across wood, clay, glass, steel, terrazzo and ceramics; and is best known for extending cork beyond convention into sculptural high-end furniture and lighting. His designs express quiet confidence, where craft, emotion and experimentation remain central.
The showroom At his Observatory studio, factory and showroom, Laurie’s love of colour, art and collectables merges with pieces he designs and produces for clients, with giant cork pendants and handmade ceramic tabletops sitting alongside his personal art collection, natural history finds, and oversized plants.

Haldane

The design A ground-breaking South African designer who has reflected the zeitgeist over the decades, in pieces such as the Songololo sofa, the Zulu Mama chair and the Baba Papa lounger that have achieved icon status, Haldane Martin is also known for creating distinctive hospitality interiors such as the dramatic steam-punk Truth Coffee. Now his focus is on outdoor furniture in authentic luxury mode that reflects his love for Cape Town and nature.
The showroom When he outgrew his previous Woodstock studio, Haldane restored a characterful 1920s industrial building in Salt River for a spacious studio and showroom that is drenched in natural light. It’s a place where even his larger pieces, such as the Contour collection and the Galapagos outdoor kitchen island, have room to breathe surrounded by foliage and clay-brick paving, and where you’ll find a host of Haldane’s outdoor table and chair designs to choose between.

LIM

The design Less is More… the name reflects the minimalist philosophy of Pauline Mutlow, who founded the studio in Kloof Street in 1997. Now Andrea Gazet du Chatellier and Marc-Anthony Hewson continue her legacy, working with artisans in Cape Town to craft durable and memorable pieces, such as the contemporary Chesterfield sofa or the Escarpment armchair, and a wide range of wood, metal and upholstered furniture, for comfortable and functional modern interiors with impact.
The showroom The flagship store on Kloof Street is a goldmine of inspiration for the home with regular restyles keeping things fresh and exciting, and collections of ceramics and homeware (candles too) to pick up for a quick decor refresh. And the brand-new Claremont showroom gives Southern Suburbs locals a chance to pop in regularly to see what’s new.

Lemon Furniture

The design Timelessness, craftsmanship and a sense of nostalgia are the inspiration for Lemon’s creative director Kevin Frankental and managing director Jaco van Staden. The emotional register of something meticulously made by hand, the elegant simplicity of a piece designed for everyday living, gives a life to their collections. Their first “hit single” winning them international acclaim was the sleek cylindrical Constant nightstand in poplar burl, by long-time collaborating designer Yaniv Chen.
The showroom The Cape Town showroom recently moved to a heritage building just off Loop Street, where you can see how the collection works together: the Arts and Crafts meets contemporary Rambling chair, the 1950’s Italy-reminiscent Kent loveseat, and the fluted Vondel travertine side table, each evoking very different eras but creating a harmonious and intentional  aesthetic. And artworks from the Reservoir stable of artists.

Dokter and Misses

The design Industrial designer Adriaan Hugo and graphic designer Katy Taplin are the dynamic husband-and-wife duo behind Dokter and Misses. Challenging conventions and reinterpreting everyday forms they share a vision of functional artistry in funky pieces that make a statement but are also eminently practical. Each piece is designed and handcrafted in Johannesburg and their limited-edition pieces are in demand from collectors all over the world.
The showroom With space on both the ground and first floor of Heritage House, their Cape Town showroom brings a frisson of urban Joburg energy to the Mother City. Crema

The design When owner Craig Tabor-Raeside moved back to Cape Town from London and took over Crema Design, he saw a demand here for European designs that represented more affordable luxury as well as importing the top-end designs in lighting and furniture. Today you’ll find the distinctive luxury style of British designer Tom Dixon alongside Danish brands HAY, &Tradition and Muuto, Spanish label Parachilna, and many more names that embrace Crema’s love of luxury and artisanal production with a contemporary and often quirky edge.
The showroom The old-school Woodstock shopfront near the Old Biscuit Mill is a place to be inspired to new interior heights by some of the world’s best brands in a curated collection that spans furniture, feature lighting, handmade rugs and accessories. And you’ll find irresistible smaller homeware items to provide instant retail therapy.

Inova Concept Store

The design High-end designer furniture is in the family for Brent Weldon… his dad pioneered importing Italian collectable furniture to Cape Town back in the 1980s at a renowned store called Innovation. After years of supplying luxury furniture and lighting to commercial spaces as Inova Contracts, Brent conceived Inova Concept Store as a retail space to showcase world-class design and show local brands alongside international ones.
The showroom Designed as an immersive lifestyle space to wander, find inspiration and get a sense of how pieces will fit into your home, the Harrington Street store displays top European brands such as HAY, Pedrali, Arflex and Audo Copenhagen, is sole South African distributor for Italian design collective Memphis Milano, and includes local brands such as Vorster & Braye Ceramics and The Detail Smith.

James Mudge Furniture Studio

The design Contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship are the guiding principles of James Mudge’s furniture studio. He grew up in a family of woodworkers and furniture makers in Knysna on the Garden Route and, after studying architecture, decided that furniture-making was a far more satisfying design process for him. Since 2006 he and a small team of skilled artisans has been making furniture to order for clients all over the world. Using established cabinet-making methods, they work in solid sustainable hardwoods such as French oak, American walnut, white oak and ash, as well as Iroko from central Africa for long-lasting outdoor (and indoor) furniture.
The showroom At the showroom, attached to the factory in Paarden Eiland, you can get a sense of the characters of different woods, the precision of the joinery, the perfectly balanced chairs, the sensual smoothness and grain of the wood, and the clean lines of James’ designs, before commissioning a custom piece destined to become a family heirloom.

Okha

The design Founded by South African architects SAOTA in 1997, OKHA has evolved into a contemporary furniture brand at the forefront of the South African design scene under creative director Adam Court since 2007. Known for a bold design language that borders on the sculptural, from seductively curvaceous to unapologetically Brutalist, but always elegant, modern, beautifully crafted and designed for living, these are distinctive pieces in demand the world over.
The showroom In a landmark building at the foot of Table Mountain, the OKHA showroom is at the headquarters of SAOTA and ARRCC interior design studio. Here you’ll find pieces from the latest collections, such as the first outdoor collection Tribe, as well as long-standing staples and objets d’art.

Wunders

The design A third-generation family business, Dana and Bianca continue the tradition of handcrafting quality furniture established when their father Peter Wunder opened the company in 1985, following his father’s legacy as a master upholster. From sofas, to beds, tables, ottomans and armchairs, all manufactured, handcrafted and upholstered in Cape Town, these are classic pieces for contemporary homes.
The showroom A place to explore options (and there are a lot of them) with helpful staff easing you through the process of deciding on sofa style and fabric (custom-made to order), or to find the perfect dining chair or coffee table for your home. And look out for products and creative projects from the MakeSpace initiative, headed up by designer Heath Nash, to create useful and beautiful items and artworks from offcuts and waste materials.
