Belly of the Beast Lunch Special: Three Courses for R280

Belly of the Beast Lunch Special: Three Courses for R280

The special R280 for three courses (when booking via the button below; enter discount code “InsideGuide” at checkout).
About the restaurant Since opening in August 2018, this wildly popular Harrington Street haunt hasn’t had an empty seat. Dining at Belly of the Beast is much more than a meal, it’s a gastronomic experience of the highest standard. Co-owners Neil Swart and Anouchka Horn pursued a shared dream of unhindered culinary creativity, where Neil Swart explains: “Cooking dishes on a small scale enhances the depth of flavour of each element.” Naturally, Neil only cooks with local seasonal ingredients and sustainably sourced meat.

The industrial-modern space is cool yet cosy, elevated by a curated alternative playlist. An entirely exposed kitchen lines one side of the restaurant and a street-facing window lines the other. The restaurant used to be open for dinner only, but has recently launched a lunch service: a shorter three-course version of their dinner tasting. Spaces are already becoming sparse, so booking is advisable.

The special R170 for two courses
R195 for three courses
About the restaurant Housed in a 20th-century Victorian house, this cool courtyard restaurant, set back from busy Kloof Street, is like stepping into the pages of The Great Gatsby. Hidden behind thick shrubs, you might miss it but, once inside, you’ll be happy you didn’t. The twinkling fairy lights and velvet cushions lining the garden area, as well as the warmly lit, romantic setting of the cosy-chic interior, makes this one of Kloof Street’s sexiest haunts for a special occasion, date night, or a no-excuses-needed meal with family and friends.

La Mouette: Five-Course Spring Special

La Mouette: Five-Course Spring Special

The special R345 for five courses; R620 with wine-pairing
About the restaurant La Mouette (seagull in French), is situated on Sea Point’s Regent Road in a welcoming Tudor-style manor house, with a relaxing, yet elegant atmosphere. The fresh and flavourful dishes concocted by chef Henry Vigar epitomise modern French cuisine with a hint of Mediterranean flavours. The fact that fellow chefs George Jardine and Pete Goffe-Wood rate it among Cape Town’s best restaurants is just another, er, feather in the seagull’s cap.
The menu’s tasty, well-balanced offerings are a paean to spring: croquettes and sweetcorn soup to begin; followed by house-made ricotta gnocchi or heirloom potato carpaccio. Options for the fourth course are ratatouille; locally caught line fish or ostrich fan fillet; followed by a decadent chocolate-and-raspberry dessert. Sounds heavenly, and for just R345! The wine-pairing option, for R620, accentuates the courses perfectly.
