Foxcroft Lunch Special: R595 for 3 Courses

Part of the La Colombe group of restaurants, with chef-proprietor Glen Foxcroft Williams at the helm, Foxcroft is located in the charming High Constantia Centre. The interiors are stylish but not flashy; Mid-Century-style chairs, wood panelling, a central fireplace and an open pass (for an eye into the kitchen) create a welcoming ambience. Though the vibe at Foxcroft is more laidback than its siblings in the La Colombe family, the food has a fine-dining ethos and is served as a set menu (with choices) of small plates. Think cavatelli with beef cheek, mushrooms and bone marrow; or braised pork belly with sesame cabbage, pickled daikon and crackling. These are boundary-pushing dishes that taste as good as they look.

Galjoen Lunch Special: R450 for Multi Courses

Sustainable seafood by the boatload is the core philosophy behind Galjoen, a semi-industrial dining space in the heart of the city. “Our approach is to serve only what is responsibly caught locally. If it’s not from South Africa, it’s not going on the menu,” says co-owner Neil Swart. He and Anouchka Horn continue the winning formula that wowed Cape Town foodies at Belly of the Beast: a set multi-course tasting menu, a limited number of seats and reservations only – and, of course, fabulous local ingredients. Chef Isca Stoltz’s frequently changing menu is always a surprise, but might include stunners such as the abalone alfredo or yellowfin tuna sausage roll.
