The much-loved Constantia deli and café has opened its third branch – at Constantia Uitsig – just in time for summer. Charmaine Lilje’s inimitable recipe for delicious food and wine simply served with rustic style and plenty of panache continues here in the beautiful wine farm setting. It’s ideal for relaxed alfresco meals with a wide reed-ceilinged terrace looking out onto green lawns, all with fabulous mountain views.
All-day farm feasts
Breakfast at the new Chardonnay Deli follows the same simply delicious format as the original deli. Smoothie bowls, bacon and eggs, avo smash with smoked salmon, green omelette caprese, with croissants and more from the bakery too.
For lunch and dinner, the menu changes daily, but expect café-dining stalwarts such as calamari salad, mussels, baked goat’s cheese, carpaccio and burrata for starters, or shared small plates. And generous dishes such as Asian sticky pork belly, risottos, T-bone steak and chips, crusted line fish with new potatoes and seafood pastas for mains. And there are cheese and charcuterie boards too.
Picnic time
The lawns are all set up with umbrellas for summer picnics. The three picnic offerings assemble a smorgasbord of the best ingredients from the deli into hampers to share: think cold meats and cheeses, pâté and preserves, olives, crusty baguettes, and koeksisters. There’s a vegetarian option, and a vegan one, too.
Pairing perfection
What’s not to love about a cheesecake-and-chardonnay pairing… Explore the wine that the deli is named for paired with baked goods playing with dessert flavours. Summer afternoon bliss guaranteed.
