A winning Winelands recipe.
Just outside Paarl, Nederburg Wine Estate is a popular Winelands destination, home to a slew of wonderful experiences – one of which is The Manor restaurant. Boasting breathtaking views of the Drakenstein mountains and the farm’s vineyards and gardens beyond, The Manor celebrates Nederburg’s rich heritage (dating back to 1791) through an innovative food-and-wine experience in the estate’s beautifully reimagined manor house.
Open for breakfast, harvest-inspired lunches and garden picnics, the eatery is run by a young dynamic team, who have created a tantalising menu of seasonal fare matched with award-winning wines.
Ripe for the picking
The excitement of the annual harvest is palpable throughout the estate, with fruit from the vines and orchards ripe for the picking, and the cellar bustling with activity. But the bonhomie doesn’t end here…
The restaurant is serving up a regularly changing blackboard menu of dishes that celebrate harvest season. We’re talking freshly baked mosbolletjies; baked camembert wrapped in vine leaves; grilled fish and grape salad; cheese platters featuring grape jam; and mosbolletjie bread-and-butter pudding with clotted cream.
The standard à la carte menu is still available to order for all-day breakfasts and lunches from 12pm. Guests can expect the likes of smoked salmon with candied orange, pink peppercorn crème fraȋche; chicken Caesar salad; and oysters for starters; and a beef burger; springbok loin drenched in port jus; chef Jerry’s baby chicken (prepared according to his grandma’s recipe); and sustainably sourced linefish for mains.
Sweet tooths will be in heaven with the dessert menu. Think lime Eaton mess; and dark chocolate tart, with orange and chantilly cream. There’s also a cheese platter that goes wonderfully with a glass of Nederburg’s Noble Late Harvest.
Don’t leave without stocking up on some grape jams and conserves to enjoy at home.
