The Manor at Nederburg: Farm-Fresh Food + Estate Wine

The Manor at Nederburg: Farm-Fresh Food + Estate Wine

Country-style dining, award-winning wine experiences and fun for the whole family await at this historic estate in Paarl.

Just outside Paarl, Nederburg Wine Estate is a popular Winelands destination laced in history and home to a slew of wonderful experiences – the latest of which is The Manor, the estate’s brand-new restaurant.

Boasting breathtaking views of the Drakenstein mountains and the farm’s vineyards and gardens beyond, The Manor restaurant celebrates Nederburg’s rich heritage (that dates back to 1791) through an innovative food-and-wine experience in the beautifully reimagined estate manor house.

Open for breakfast, lunch and garden picnics, the eatery is run by head chef Jerry Kennedy and his passionate team, who have created a tantalising menu of seasonal fare matched with award-winning wines.

Breakfasts of champions

Manor Nederburg View

Start your morning with a sweet or savoury Winelands meal. Options include classics, as well as exciting new options, such as blueberry-and-beetroot oatmeal muffins and a Croque Monsieur featuring toasted ciabatta, roasted tomato, avocado hummus, Emmental, gipsy ham, and crème fraîche with chive-scrambled eggs.

There’s also the Chef’s Classic – a traditional favourite of eggs, bacon, boerewors, homemade chakalaka, a corn fritter, baby spinach and mushrooms. Pair your morning meal with a freshly brewed coffee, hot tea or fruit juice. Or take it a step further and opt for a crisp mimosa made with the estate’s Première Cuvée Brut. Cheers!

The main attraction

Manor Nederburg Restaurant

Lunch begins at 12pm and offers an extensive menu of starters, such as zucchini carpaccio, walnuts, gratinated goat’s chevin and mizuna salad; smoked salmon roulade with pickled ginger, vine tomatoes, microgreens and lime vinaigrette; and wild mushroom arancini with lemon green pea purée and a Parmesan wafer.

Mains include a beef burger with all the trimmings; A-grade beef rump with chimichurri; springbok loin drenched in port jus; chef Jerry’s baby chicken (prepared according to his grandma’s recipe); sustainably sourced linefish and crispy-fried squid. There’s also a vegan jambalaya that’s so good even carnivores will be tempted to give it a try!

Sweet tooths will be in heaven with the dessert menu (available to order individually or as a sharing platter). Think tarte Tatin, crème brûlée, mini chocolate brownies, fruit and cream pavlovas and deconstructed citrus tart. There’s also a cheese platter that goes wonderfully with a glass of Nederburg’s Noble Late Harvest.

Kiddies’ hot-chocolate tasting

The little ones will be in their element with the mouthwatering chocolate-tasting experience, featuring a mini selection of cardamom, cinnamon and nutmeg, hazelnut and salted-caramel hot choccies, each paired with a freshly baked biscuit.
Says chef Jerry: “We’re spreading some warmth with our decadent hot chocolate tasting. This is certainly not just for the kids, rather think along the lines of sophisticated flavours, all expertly blended with top-quality dark chocolate by barista Ivhan Arendse.”
Cost R95 per person
