5. Qhubeka bicycle assembly facility

Qhubeka Bicycle

This may not be the kind of thing you’d expect to find on a wine farm, but Nederburg’s partnership with Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka is one of the things that sets it apart from other Winelands destinations. Team Dimension Data is a UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) cycling team that races in order to raise funds for Qhubeka, a South African nonprofit organisation that donates bicycles to underprivileged communities.

This facility is where previously unemployed women assemble Qhubeka bicycles for distribution across the country. You can meet the team behind the bicycles, which includes master bicycle mechanics Beverley Roode and Janine Johnson of Bicycles & Beyond (BAB) – the organisation that manages the facility on behalf of Qhubeka.

Opening times Monday – Thursday, 9am – 4pm; Friday, 9am – 2pm
