In one of the most naturally beautiful settings in the Jonkershoek Valley, this laidback restaurant flaunts spellbinding views.
Located at Stark-Condé Wines in the serene Jonkershoek Valley, Postcard Café, as its name suggests, flaunts one of the most picture-perfect settings in the Stellenbosch Winelands.
Coupled with its setting, the restaurant’s selection of simple yet expertly prepared dishes and baked goods, make it an ideal venue for a lazy family lunch or sumptuous Winelands breakfast – whether you choose to sit inside or on the shaded verandah outdoors.
Either way, you’re guaranteed a front-row seat to uninterrupted views of rolling lawns and millpond-like dam, where a floating tasting room awaits…
On the menu is a diverse array of options, created by head chef Munitaka Kimura and his passionate team, who are inspired by a variety of cuisines.
Breakfast options include omelettes, shakshuka, freshly baked croissants and homemade granola. The lunch menu is designed for guests to linger longer and features butter chicken curry, beef fillet and home-style potato chips, Franschhoek smoked salmon and fresh dill on rye, and pork mince bobotie, with crème caramel; almond and Valrhona dark chocolate cake; lemon tart. There is even a selection of vegetarian and vegan-friendly dishes.
Wine-tasting with a view
The tasting room offers a unique experience – even by Stellenbosch standards, where the competition is tough. Hovering over the dam, the venue has oversized glass windows that maximise views of the Jonkershoek mountains. Visitors are invited to taste a selection of award-winning wines, most notably the three cabernet sauvignons, each grown at different elevations on the mountainous estate.
It really is a destination worth writing home about…
