When you’re next out and about in the Tokai neck of the woods (with your furry friends, naturally) be sure to pop by Secret Forest Café – a quaint family-run coffee shop in the forest!

Coffee with a view

Secret Forest Cafe Tokai Forest Cape Town

Situated on the edge of Tokai Forest’s indigenous nature reserve, with perfect views of Elephant’s Eye mountain range, the pop-up opened in the thick of the first lockdown (June 2020) and has since morphed into a fully fledged operation, offering good coffee (of course), a delectable selection of cookies, cakes, juices, smoothies, tea and caffeine-free beverages. Vegan and four-legged friends are catered for, too. Talk about a lovely little hole in the wall!

Secret Cafe Tokai Forest

Everything is made from scratch using, wherever possible, local and organic ingredients, some of which are grown at Ibis House Farm, where the café is situated.

In the pipeline

  • a roof deck and a courtyard area with chairs and tables
  • more breakfast and sandwich options
  • picnic hampers, complete with blankets, drinks and nibbly bits

How to find it? The property has high walls and is located at the end of the wooden bridge that runs adjacent to Lower Tokai Park (the fynbos part of the forest). Park at Tokai Lion’s Club parking lot, then take the first path on the very left and walk directly across the forest with Elephant’s Eye behind you. Keep left all the way, and you will eventually reach a long grey wall.
