The Kraal at Joostenberg

Farming folk, the saying goes, know how to celebrate not just the big occasions in life, but also the little pleasures and the passing of the seasons. They never need an excuse to gather loved ones and neighbours, and lay on a feast of good food and drink.

Spring Walk The kraal at Joostenberg 2022: Cuisine

This kind of generous hospitality is evident every Fridays (from 28 October) at The Kraal, a wonderfully laidback venue tucked in a corner of Joostenberg, beside the winery and werf (farmstead).

No-frills authenticity

Spring Walk The kraal at Joostenberg 2022: Dining

Surrounded by old, whitewashed stone walls, The Kraal conjures a simple, almost-Mediterranean aesthetic. Guests dine alfresco at long wooden tables under umbrellas and the dappled shade of fruit and olive trees, with views of the 30-hectare farm in all directions.

Chef Garth Bedford’s fuss-free menu changes weekly, based entirely on seasonal, local, organic produce, and wines are suggested to pair with dishes on the week’s menu.

Good to know Booking is essential. Children are welcome, but there is no separate children’s menu.
Opening times Friday – Sunday, 12pm – 2.30pm (from 30 October)
Cost R625
Book through DinePlan

The Kraal at Joostenberg Wine

Pop in at the adjacent winery, before or after your meal, to enjoy a tutored (but very chilled) tasting of the Joostenberg range, and pick up a few bottles to take home. The winery also produces its own bubbly, NIU Organic Chenin Blanc MCC, with the help of Spanish cava producers.

If you’re looking for a fuss-free, gesellige day in the Winelands, you’ve come to the right Kraal!

Cost R75 (wine tasting)
Opening times Friday + Sunday, 11am – 4pm
Book through DinePlan
