Restaurants he rates in 2019

For a casual meal The Hussar Grill in Rondebosch.
For a special occasion The Test Kitchen, of course. I have been there five times since 2011, and every time the experience is different but always memorable and amazing. It’s a dining wonder. A place where you feel like magic can happen.
For a guilty pleasure Junior Burger. I love those little burgers, and the fries with the Junior pink sauce are awesome!
For a Winelands experience The Table at De Meye. The farm is beautiful and the food is so damn good. It’s honest and comforting, but also fresh and never dull. Jessica [Shepherd] is a great cook and her food is beautiful. You taste love in her food. It reminds me of the kind of love that my mom put in her food when I was growing up.
For authentic cuisine South China Dim Sum Bar on Long Street. I love the food there and, though I have never been to China, the food has a clear identity of what it represents.
Best new restaurant Chefs Warehouse at Maison. I love Dave [Schneider’s] food. Honest and delicious. The Commissary is a new one that is also exciting and fun.
Best “oldie but goodie” The Dias Tavern. It’s a great place to get some good peri-peri chicken; and there is always a fun, loud and noisy vibe. Kind of like my house growing up!
The best restaurant overall Chefs Warehouse Beau Constantia. The food is incredible, the views are beautiful and the service is great. Can’t go wrong.
