Downstairs from Grub & Vine, chef Matt Manning’s popular Bree Street bistro, this cocktail lounge and jazz club adds another dimension to a night out in the Mother City. Regularly hosting top local musicians, you can toe-tap to top-brass musos while enjoying a delectable array of dishes from the bistro kitchen. As for the cocktails, named after perennially cool jazz artists, they’re equally appetising. The dinner special showcases winter flavours in Matt’s refined bistro style, featuring seared trout with charred watermelon; butternut risotto with pickled butternut and confit lemon; and a choice of pan-fried linefish with charred calamari and baby fennel, or braised lamb neck with smoked aubergine for mains. Dessert is an optional extra should chocolate tart, passionfruit panna cotta, or a South African cheese board appeal.
