Grab a basket and fill it to the brim with a fresh crop of superfood!
Living in Cape Town means we have access to a crop of beautiful farms in and around the city (and slightly further afield) where we can pick strawberries to our heart’s content. There’s nothing quite like strolling through fruit fields with friends, and filling baskets with juicy, sun-warmed berries, while your little ones roam free (or help… picking their own berries into mini kid-friendly baskets).
Strawberry season in the Cape is between October and December, with Stellenbosch being the number one destination. Here’s where we love to go strawberry-picking.
Polkadraai Strawberry Farm
This family-friendly farm is the perfect day out for little ones (and big ones, too). Grab a basket, and let them roam around the fields picking delicious strawberries. Afterwards, they can enjoy face-painting, mini golf, tractor and pony rides, and other entertainment.
Good to know Baskets come in various sizes – you take the basket home with you filled with the berries you pick, no weighing needed.
Times Monday – Sunday, 9am – 4pm
Cost R50 (junior picker)
R65 (harvester)

Mooiberge Strawberry Farm
This farm, dating back to the 1900s, has a rich history of producing one of the best strawberry harvests in the country year after year. And the funky and fabulous scarecrows which line the entrance and are dotted around the fields are almost as big an attraction as the berries. The farm shop also sells a range of dried fruits, honey and nuts as well as the farm’s wine.
Times Strawberry picking: 1 October – 31 December 2023, 9.30am – 4.30pm
Mooiberge farm: Monday – Sunday, 8.30am – 6pm

A Garden Route favourite, Redberry Farm is a fabulous pitstop for the whole family. In addition to picking strawberries, the farm is home to the largest hedge maze in the southern hemisphere, and also offers pony rides, go-karts, and bumper boats to keep the little ones entertained. There’s also a strawberry-inspired restaurant and three artisanal eateries.
Good to know The farm hosts children’s parties as well as baby showers, tea parties and team-building events.
