When it comes to picnics, Boschendal delivers on the two essential ingredients: a basket of deliciousness and a setting to match! In tractor loads, with dramatic mountains vistas creating the backdrop for the oak-shaded Pavilion lawns.
The Werf Farm Picnics are relaxed affairs, with live acoustic music adding to the chilled vibe. There’s lots of space to spread out a blanket (these and lawn chairs are supplied, or you can request a table and chair set-up when you book)
The Tree House playground and pump track – without a doubt, one of the best play areas in the Winelands for children between 5 and 14 years – is close by and there are acres of grass for them to romp around on. Well-behaved dogs are allowed to join the family outing, too.
What’s in the Boschendal picnic basket?
In you basket you’ll find wholesome treats, mostly made on site with vegetables and herbs freshly picked from the Werf Food Garden, charcuterie made in Boschendal’s butchery, bread courtesy of the farm’s bakers, and other delicious treats made by the chefs.
- farm-baked ciabatta, with butter, hummus and olives
- Werf green salad, with parmesan shavings and vinaigrette
- coronation roasted cauliflower
- potato, mustard and spring onion salad
- shaved Angus beef, Duroc pork and pickles
- honey-mustard roast chicken
- Dalewood Camembert, onion marmalade

A creative kids’ menu, and vegetarian menus for kids and adults are available, as is a vegan basket available on request.
There can be no simpler luxury than relaxing under the dappled shade of ancient oak trees and letting the Boschendal Deli team take care of all the details.
