Cape Town Tour: Ripley’s Believe it or Not

Prepare for your mind to be blown (and your senses confused) – Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Summer Attraction has landed at V&A Waterfront.

Over a period of 35 years, founder Robert Ripley (1890–1949) travelled to 201 countries seeking the odd, the unusual and the unexplained! In that time, he collected over 25 000 artefacts, declaring the strangest thing he ever saw to be a man! After he died in 1949, Ripley Entertainment Inc. continued to expand his collection of curiosities, adding some amazing pieces on an almost daily basis.

Expect the unexpected

Visitors can look forward to microscopic marvels – such as art in the eye of a needle, and animal oddities – such as a two-headed calf. From a nest of dinosaur eggs to a Megoladon’s jaw, and shrunken human heads, this show has it all.

With 170 interactive exhibitions – of actual and replicated artefacts – Ripley’s is the perfect outing for family and friends. And once you’re done ogling the eye-openers, stop off for a quick refreshment. On sale are ice creams, chips and other convenience snacks.

If you’re a souvenir person, visit the gift shop at the end for a unique replica to take home. Selling fast are the Believe It or Not and Guinness World Records 2016 books, as well as wire replicas of the artefacts made by local artists.
