Its fairytale-esque topography makes the Mother City the dreamiest city on the planet for a paragliding adventure. So, what better way to experience its true majesty than with an adrenaline-pumping adventure?
Don’t fly off the rails, we have all the details
So here’s the deal: Meet the instructors at the end of Signal Hill Drive. From there you’ll be taken to one of the two takeoff locations: Lion’s Head or Signal Hill (Lion’s Head is the more popular one because of the views of Table Mountain and the peninsula).
Your instructor will clip you in securely, and then you’ll be attached to an expert pilot, who’ll walk a few steps with you – off the side of the mountain, and into the air! Once in the air, all you have to do is sit back and relax as you gradually glide at a maximum of 40km an hour to Sea Point’s popular promenade.
Flights last between five and 30 minutes, and you do not need any previous knowledge or experience of paragliding – simply arrive at the takeoff point in comfortable clothing (closed shoes, long pants and a windbreaker) and one of the instructors will take you through some guidelines before your “flight”.
In perfect weather conditions, the instructor will show you how to steer so that you can fly the paraglider yourself!
Good to know It is encouraged that you drink plenty of water before the flight and put on lots of sunscreen. After the flight, you’ll be driven back to the parking area at the end of Signal Hill Drive.
