The Vineyard Hotel: A Splendid Afternoon Tea in Lush Surrounds
Verdant gardens, tortoises, and time for conversation and connection.
By Inside Guide • 05 May 2026
On the banks of the Liesbeek River in Newlands, The Vineyard is an eight-hectare oasis of greenery, old-world charm and tranquillity, where rituals such as afternoon tea unfold at a leisurely pace.
Tea is taken in Morii restaurant, a warm, considered space, or on the patio where you might encounter a resident tortoise wandering across the lawns that extend over layers of green towards the eastern slopes of Table Mountain. Tea at The Vineyard is a gentle ritual of connection and conversation, accompanied by a thoughtfully prepared selection of savouries and beautifully crafted pastries.
Four courses of joy

There’s a sense of occasion to the tradition of afternoon tea, whether you’re celebrating a birthday or simply creating a spark of pure joy to make an ordinary afternoon feel special. As delicate aromas waft from your choice of the superb Nigiro loose-leaf teas (try the fragrant Vineyard blend created especially for them), the first of four courses arrives. Delicate finger sandwiches, mini pitas and choux buns, are followed by a delicious selection of savouries (butter chicken puff pies, beef kibbeh with tzatziki, potato borek with lemon mayo).

After lingering over a plate of feather-light scones (which arrive in a smoke-filled cloche), spread with milk-tart chantilly cream and strawberry jam, the tea experience concludes with tiers of delicate pastries, cakes and sweets (including a particularly memorable strawberry crémeux with rose jam on black pepper sablé).
An indulgent and soul-restoring ritual that stretches out a golden afternoon into a special time of conversation, laughter and joy.

Good to know Choose two teas from the beverage menu, one to accompany the savouries and one for the sweets. Or you can go for two coffees instead.
