The thing I love most about Cape Town is the closeness to nature – Kirstenbosch and Newlands Forest – with easy access for running and walking.

When out-of-towners come to town, I take them on a drive around the peninsula to Cape Point

An annual Cape Town event I always participate in is The Two Oceans Half- Marathon

If you’re looking for Banting-friendly restaurants, La Colombe, Buitenverwachting, and Gardener’s Cottage are my favourites. In fact, all French cuisine is geared towards this kind of eating.

I usually order the Karoo lamb.

Twitter is the best educational tool I have ever encountered.

Oscar Pistorius is many things that may be less than ideal, but I am not convinced that he is a cold-blooded murderer. So I favour the defence’s explanation. That said, the prosecution has outperformed the defence team.

My favourite thing to watch on TV is Varsity Cup Rugby

On weekends you’ll find me at Kirstenbosch.

On my bucket list to do in the Cape is to see the wild spring flowers on the west coast.

The best coffee in Cape Town is from The Gardener’s Cottage in Newlands.

The best walks in Cape Town are to be found at Kirstenbosch, Silvermine and Newlands Forest.

The best book I’ve read in a while is The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown. It’s the story of nine American rowers and their epic quest for gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

My favourite film is Chariots of Fire.

I’m currently busy with a follow-up to The Real Meal Revolution.

On Sundays I walk with Marilyn (my wife) in Kirstenbosch or I go for a run.

Money… there’s never enough for all the research I still want to do!

Straight after this I’m replying to emails – it never ends.

One day I’d like to cruise to the Antarctic Peninsula, Falklands and South Georgia.
