He had us in hysterics when he appeared on the first season of Come Dine with Me. Here, the brand ambassador of One&Only, 30, talks Cape Town.

Aubrey Ngcungama on Cape Town

I was born and raised in KwaZulu-Natal

What I love most about living in Cape Town is the great variety of activities available,  ranging from historical and cultural to outdoor and culinary. It’s a haven.

When out-of-towners come to town, I take them for a drink at Vista Bar at One&Only. A visit to the winelands is a must and, of course, one of the many great restaurants out there. I love to show off our part of the world, and these activities do just that.

The best restaurant meal I’ve eaten recently was at Chefs Warehouse in Bree Street.

I am still very much in love with Liam [Tomlin]’s little gem! the He’s a genius and Jan runs a great front-of-house show.

My other favourite restaurants include La Mouette in Sea Point. The very talented Henry [Vigar] has created a seasonal tasting menu of which I am a huge fan. I also have a soft spot for The Pot Luck Club. Who doesn’t?

An annual Cape Town event I always attend is Taste of Cape Town. It’s great way to spend a day wining and dining – on a mini scale – with friends.

My favourite weekend getaway is my friends’ farmhouse in Paarl. We spend a lot of time cooking and enjoying great company around the dining table. It’s virtually the only time I get to cook these days.

On your bucket list to still do – many will be shocked to read this – is Robben Island.

I’m a non-coffee drinker – the kind of person who orders tea in a coffeehouse and fish in a steakhouse – without hesitation!

Walking… what a great idea. I must try more of that in 2015! As for outdoor activities, does alfresco dining count?

The Banting diet just needs carbs, and then it would be the perfect diet.

My favourite drink for a special occasion is vintage Veuve. A special bottle of champagne has never let anyone down…

A good brand ambassador should enjoy the company of strangers, have a sense of humour, and a nose for trends.

I’m currently busy with my cookery book, which has been long in the making. Less cookery book, more culinary habits.

On Sundays I enjoy a long lunch with friends and family.

Money is something I’m not very good at.

Straight after this, I’m going to pour myself a Jorgensen’s gin with tonic.

When I wake up in the middle of the night I check what emails have come in from the hotel.

One day you’ll have to address me as Your Excellency.

The best ‘Come Dine With Me’ ever was the one with you Aubrey – your dry sense of humour gets me every time I catch a repeat of that episode – which isn’t that often I guess I’ve only seen the episode twice, but I will download that episode via torrent just to see your hi-jinks again. Hilarious.

Just watched you on come dine with me. I immediately googled to find you online…. To tell you… You are such a mean, cruel pretentious person. You critize other people without justification. You probably cry yourself to sleep every night. I’m glad you lost.
