Teniqua Treetops
Where Sedgefield
Distance from CT 5 hours
Setting This eco lodge takes glamping to another level… a few levels above the ground, actually. These spacious treetop suites are made of canvas, wood and glass, and were constructed in such a way as to minimise impact on the surrounding forest. The units are spread out over a wide area to ensure privacy, so if you’re looking to escape, no one’s likely to find you up here – except the occasional bird or mischievous monkey.
Eco cred The wood used for construction was sustainably farmed; gas and solar power; river water pumped through an onsite, non-chemical filtration system; greywater used for flushing toilets and irrigation; biodegradable cleaning materials; recycling and composting practised.

Why don’t you have pet friendly venues as well
The Inside Guide
Hi Arlene,
You can view pet friendly accommodation on our post, The Best Pet-Friendly Accommodation in The Cape.
Pamela Nayler
except 1 ….all pet unfriendly, what a pity
Karisa
Awesome list. Just disappointing that so few are pet friendly. Can you guys do a “best pet friendly” accommodation list next 🙂
Gail
Perhaps the hospitality industry should introduce a ‘Pet Passport’ within which your pet behavior could be logged somewhere as reference of previous stays and responsible behavior displayed by both the pet and the owner. If accommodation is not pet friendly, one can add a further R1000 per night to hire pet-sitters if you don’t have friends of family that can look after your pets. One of the key reasons we are restricted to going away regularly for weekends.
Shahid Abdool
Couldn’t agree more with Bruce Hutchison regarding per friendly accommodation. Our fury pets are part of our household and we love to take them away for holidays, but can never find suitable accommodation that caters for pets. Really sad that South African operators are not inline with international operators.
Anthony
100% Agree with Bruce.
I also look for the pet friendly options because that is just the way we are these days, and I am always disappointed to find so few. Two or three days away without the hounds not only leaves them out of the fun but it is a logistical issue too.
Laura Beylefeld
Agree.
It is extremely difficult to find pet friendly options in nature and my dogs are 100% socialised – all round friendly. They love the geese, the guinea, the sheep, other dogs and cats and birds, nothing phases them, they were raised one with nature.
Bruce Hutchison
Greetings Insider Team,
Week after week I look forward to your magazine hoping to find an escape for a few days. You really do an amazing job bringing us all these wonderful ideas. What I have unfortunately begun to realise is how unfriendly South Africa is towards pets. By example just look through this week’s escape cabins and you will only find three out of 22. Having lived all over Europe for many years I can compare how pets, especially dogs are welcomed there in both restaurants and accommodation entities. What can be done to bring South African hospitality operators up to speed with today’s travellers. By the way what would be of great help is if you could publish restaurents’ pet policy when you feature these.
Just a few suggestions from a keen fan and arvent reader.
Judy Sturrock
Couldn’t agree more regarding pet friendly accommodation. 3/22 is pretty sad.
Linda Thomalla
