Soak yourself silly.
Those Romans were definitely onto something with their steaming baths (calderiums)… Fast-forward 2 000 years and outdoor hot tubs are one of the most coveted items at any modern escape worth its weight in wood. There’s nothing quite like sinking into a steaming drum after a day of exploring, drink in hand, gazing at the view.
We’ve rounded up our favourite hot tub escapes in the Cape – from forest and farm cottages to secluded mountain cabins and seaside soujourns. All you need to do is lie back, relax and let the stress of everyday life fade into the distance.
Please note Some of these properties are super-popular, so booking way in advance is advised!

Camp Canoe

Where Franschhoek
Distance from CT 45 minutes
Setting Tucked among lush fynbos, olive trees and boulders on the rustic side of the Simonsberg Mountains at Boschendal, Camp Canoe is far removed from the wine estate’s foot traffic, so guests can unwind and reconnect with nature in peace. Waking at sunrise to birdsong from the comfort of a sumptuous bed, before embarking on a day of little adventures (be it epicurean or outdoorsy), is a special kind of luxury. You’ll probably want to stay put, though – the setting and views are lovely, with the tents skirting a sparkling dam. A hot tub on your deck does tend to encourage idling the hours away.
